Wow, I can't keep up with the sewing puns, but I am stunned at the magnititude of this whole sutter's fort saga! You're amazing! (along with all the other hardworking parents). Must be nice to have it done, too. And -- lucky Tom, I'm sure he's going love his new pinafore.

Joe, you're so good at the off the cuff remarks! I'm confident, though, that if we keep skirting the issue, he'll never catch on. On the other hand, if we stop gathering these hints, we'll really be off the hook and I, for one, will be at ease.

Laura, your response had me in stitches, but you should really stop needling Tom. You know he's following this thread, so don't give him any more hints.

Of COURSE I was working on your birthday present, darling. Sure I might have thrown you off with my hemming and hawing, but I got things buttoned up, despite pressing deadlines, on this 'forty' project. You're going to love it, trust me.

Joe - it sure was! I actually think the kids did begin to get a feel for how much effort it takes, but frankly not even all the adults grasped the whole picture.
I would have loved to get my hands on the smithy's tools! Unfortunately I did just enough blacksmithing in the metal shop at RISD to know how to really fry a piece of metal. Don't think he would have appreciated the help!!

Wow, what an adventure. You all fit in about three days worth of activities in that time. Looks like a top notch field trip - I wonder how many of the kids realize the effort that went into it, although it seems like it was as much a field trip for the parents as the kids.

I guess they didn't want any amateurs playing with the smith's forge...although with your glass blowing chops you could probably have handled it fine!
